las Rosas ranch

This project explores the architectural and ecological implications of off-grid living by questioning the systems we typically rely on—and what it means to design without them. It challenges conventional dependencies on collective utility infrastructures by integrating a blend of low-tech and high-tech solutions to create a fully self-sustaining home. Located on a rural site in Southern California, the residence is designed to operate independently across all essential systems, including water, waste, food production, energy generation, and communications. Beyond functionality, the project investigates how these systems inform aesthetics, material choices, and constructability—offering a holistic and resilient model for future living.
