nf community

This project explores the architect’s leadership role within the community, particularly about issues of growth, development, and aesthetics, through the lens of urban design practices and architectural urbanism. Students engage with a broad range of urban theories, spatial strategies, building typologies, landscape and infrastructure design, as well as the political and policy-making processes that shape the urban environment. The course emphasizes the dynamic interplay between public and private realms in diverse urban settings. Open to fourth- and fifth-year students, the studio places civic engagement at its core. Students collaborate with real-world clients and user groups—such as non-profits, neighborhood organizations, or K–12 schools—whose input directly informs the design process. Through these interactions, students gain deeper insight into community needs, allowing for transformative learning and design outcomes grounded in social relevance.
